Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder Review

The Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder is a truly enticing device since there aren’t many 4K resolution camera recorders out on the market right now. However, the Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder has some mind-boggling cons that may make you look elsewhere. Here’s our review of Sony’s new 4K resolution camera recorder.

Pros

The Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder, which means the camera is lightweight and not difficult to hold for long periods of time. The camera can record at 4K resolution for thirty frames per second, which is the market standard of current 4K cameras.
At 1080p the camera recorder does not pixel bend, which means you will see a lot more quality out of the raw footage in your film. The Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder also includes its newest dynamic range technology to add three to four more stops while your recording. This is good for those who are recording in a lot of light because the camera will use these stops to better focus on the target so that there’s less of a contrast difference and less noise.

Sony's Alpha A7S Camera Offers 4K Video, High ISOs, Full-Frame Sensor

The Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder is designed more towards power zooming, which is a great feature for professional camera recording users. This allows them to instantly focus their cameras during the shooting, rather than having to manual focus every time that the subject or object comes out of focus.

Cons

The Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder may be a mirror-less camera recorder but it doesn’t save in sim card format. This means that you need an external data storage device with an HD cable design and while the “Shogun” is being made specifically for the Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder, it still means that you have to carry a storage device around with you in order to do anything. This defeats the purpose of being a mirror-less camera recorder.

The professional lenses intended for the Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder have not yet been developed, which means that even if you get the camera you will still have to wait a little while for the lenses to be released.

Price and Final Review

The Sony a7S 4K Digital Camera Recorder is approximately $2,500 USD but when you add the additional units that you will need to even operate the camera, you come out to an estimated $5,000 USD at the maximum. This compared to the Panasonic 4K resolution camera recorder that will come with an SD slot and will sell for estimatedly $1,600 USD; this camera might be something you need to wait on before buying.

Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera Review

Sony just released the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera and it is actually not what you would expect out of Sony. The Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera is not the first 4K Mirrorless Camera that Sony has made and you’ll soon see why this camera is not a good  mirrorless camera but it is a good mirrorless recording camera.

Sony a7S 4K Pros

Obviously, the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera can take pictures of up to 4K resolution, which makes the camera extremely valuable. 4K resolution products have just become available on the market not too long ago and even fewer of those products have the ability to capture or record a 4k resolution.

The sensor is very large with a total of 35.8 by 23.9 mm. This means that it can capture quite a lot within your lens and fans of 3D photos or panorama pictures will enjoy this camera. In addition to this, the shutter speed on the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera is 1-30 seconds out of 8,000. That would be impressive but it’s a feature that is rather standard with Sony 4K cameras.

Sony a7S 4K Cons

The Sony a7S 4K is a mirror less camera, which means you won’t be able to entirely see the exact image that you’ll be taking. Many photographers prefer a mirror camera simply because it means they can focus in on what they want to capture.

In addition to this the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera has no flash and only comes in with a 25-area contrast AF, which means that you need to manually focus your pictures in an already lit environment. The compensation that the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera has is the 100-409,600 ISO. This high ISO allows the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera to capture even the smallest bit of light but it doesn’t make it optimal for photography at night.

The Mirrorless Camera also only shoots at a maximum of 5fps, which is horrible in terms of the standard for mirrorless cameras. Combine this with the extremely small 12.2MP that comes standard on the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera, and you have the making of sub-par photographs. Even the Sony a7R had a 36.4MP.

Price and the Final Score

If you’re looking for a pure 4k mirrorless camera, the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera is not the way to go right now. The only selling point for the Sony a7S 4K Mirrorless Camera is the 4k resolution and the unbelievably high ISO rate. Otherwise, this camera is sub-par compared to many others on the market, which means that a better version will be produced later on. At $2,500 USD, this camera is simply not worth the price as a mirrorless camera.
