Fair Haven, Vermont, welcomed its new mayor after he ran a successful campaign against other candidates this week.

Lincoln, who is a goat, wore a sash that read ‘Mayor’ during the ceremony on Tuesday. His inauguration marks a new beginning in politics for Fair Haven, whose citizens are sick of the grind in American politics.

Town Clerk Suzanne Dechame helped deliver the oath of office since Lincoln can’t recite the pledge.

Fair Haven has never had a goat act as a mayor, marking a turning point in new progressive politics. Currently, more than 2,500 people live in the town, and Lincoln won with 13 votes.

Other hopefuls included a dog called Stella Heibler, a cat called Sassy Towle, and a gerbil called Crystal.

The idea to elect a goat as the town’s mayor came from the official Town Manager, Joseph Gunter. He suggested that the campaign was initially a fundraiser but it ultimately turned into a class for young children learning the electoral system.

It is unclear what sweeping policies Lincoln will bring to the town of Fair Haven. Currently, Vermont’s Junior Senator Bernie Sanders is running for President in the 2020 election.

According to sources who attended the ceremony, Lincoln defecated on the floor of the office, causing a mess to be cleaned by the town’s police chief and others. So, it looks as though Lincoln will bring similar proposals to politicians who came before him.
