These Amazing Drone Images Will Change Your Perspective Of Our Earth
A drone has become a welcomed addition to cinematography in recent years. With brand new ways to see the world, they provide us with new viewpoints deemed impossible only a few years ago. We can already see their impact when used in documentaries and recreational films: most new movies rely on the standard drone overhead shot used for establishing the scene and aesthetic.
Here are some of the coolest drone shots that have been posted online. Some of these explore views that have never been captured on film before, making for some amazing ways to see the world.
Look Out!
These two got close and personal to some pretty wild beasts in California. The girls were part of a documentary that explored the relationship between sharks and humans when they traveled on a paddleboard to see them.
Kelly says: “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be so close to great whites in their natural habitat. At times, the sharks got so close to my paddleboard that I could see their color, fins, and gills in detail. I was so in the moment that I didn’t realize how much adrenaline I had until I was out of the water.”
Traffic Jams
You think your morning commute is bad? Try living in China! This drone image was snapped on the Beijing–Hong Kong–Macau Expressway, which boasts a massive 50 lanes of traffic. Despite the width, it doesn’t prevent traffic from piling up.
This photo was taken after a week-long holiday called ‘Golden Week’. According to sources, traffic was so bad that it lasted for 12 days with drivers moving one mile a day!
Gone Fishin’
Here is an example of how drones can capture the most amazing live action shots of nature. This drone user snapped a shot of this eagle just as he is about to catch his dinner. Wings open, claws out – he’s ready to eat!
This is just one example of capturing nature from a distance, keeping it organic. Amazingly, even the angle seems perfect for us to understand just what a presence this bird has. We hope he got his dinner!
What’s Up, Doc?
We’re not quite sure what’s going on here. 200 feet of bunny madness, it seems. This drone user sent his flying camera across the Alps and came across a huge stuffed rabbit. We have no idea what it is or what it’s doing there. We hope that it’s only art!
Perhaps out of frame somewhere in the distance there is a 500-foot toddler screaming over his lost bunny? We doubt it, but it wouldn’t be out of place for a photo like this one. What do you think?
Scareclowns
What’s worse than a scarecrow? Well, a scare-clown, of course. This drone user managed to find perhaps one of the most terrifying things imaginable. We suppose the farmer thinks that birds are more scared of clowns than regular people?
Either way, that’s not even the scariest thing about it. Look how he’s creeping over and staring directly at the camera. It’s as if he knows we’re watching him. Very spooky, indeed.
You May Drone The Bride
What a great way to show your friend you just got married! These two took a unique wedding photo on top of a high building overlooking the ground below. It’s a pretty obvious interpretation of how they must be feeling ‘on top of the world’ as they start their life together.

Christ The Redeemer
We know you’ve seen a picture of Christ The Redeemer, but have you ever seen him from up above? This is one of the most amazing images of the iconic Brazillian statue overlooking the people of Rio de Janeiro. It’s quite a difference from the normal shots we see.

This Icelandic eruption is too scary for humans to trek to, and think of the dangers! Today, we can send a drone to get sights like this. The lava looks like a lake of fire – very chilling, indeed.
The Great Diver
What will you do for your 60th birthday? If you’re like this man, you might find yourself jumping off a waterfall! In this incredible feat of technology, human bravery, and good timing, this Yellow River in China holds the Guinness World Record for waterfall diving spots.

High Above
Drones are great for seeing the wonders of the natural world, but we can also use them to appreciate the accomplishments of the manmade eras. Here in Barcelona, the drone is spying on the city’s Sagrat Cor Church.
It is located high up on the top of a large hill, usually covered by clouds swirling around the religious staple. Using a drone, we can now see the powerful image of Jesus looking over the people of the city from high up above.
Abandoned Beauty
Have you heard of the Republic of Abkhazia? Not many people have, but its tale is as eerie as the photos that survive it. The area was home to large amounts of killings and ethnic cleansing activities.
Once the horrific acts stopped, many people got up and left – resulting in this spooky photo of a building all but consumed by the nature surrounding it. Here, we can see the convergence of history and future, man and nature – living on forever in this photo.
High Living
Where do you go if you have noisy neighbors? If you’re sick of being around people the whole time, then perhaps you should move here. Located in the western region of Georgia, the Katskhi Pillar is a natural rock that is the home to a church with a very lonely monk.
Twice a week, food and supplies are dropped off to the monk, who is only accessible via a 131ft ladder. We would rather have some noise from neighbors, you know, on the ground!
Break In Worlds
A drone has caught this amazing moment in Norway, overlooking one of Europe’s highest waterfalls. Mardalsfossen waterfall is a 1,175ft vertical drop that is so high it rests above the clouds.
As a drone flies up to capture this unique view, we can see the swirling clouds create the illusion of the floating water. The peaceful nature at the top is in direct contrast to the chaos representing Hell and the underworld. Strange how water represents the lifeline to both worlds.
‘The Boneyard’
We all know that the US military spends billions of dollars on equipment and services. Little is known about what happens to their jets once they’ve run their course. Well, this drone can show us.
Located in Tucson, Arizona, this storage center holds 4000 different airplanes that were once used by the military. It has been in use since the second world war and operates as a high-end junkyard. The US sells certain pieces and turns a $500 million profit doing so. Not bad!
Mir Mine
This amazing drone shot captures Mir Mine, the largest diamond mine in the Soviet Union. Today, it is one of the biggest excavated holes in the entire world. It’s incredible to see such a large man-made hole and the impact that humans can have on the Earth.
Today, Mir Mine isn’t used but can still be admired from a distance. Visitors can see the mine in its glory and think about its place in history.
Forrest Landing
Do you think the photographer stumbled upon this amazing site by chance or fate? Outside of Portland, Oregon, buried in 10 acres of dense wood, is this Boeing 727 plane.
What’s most amazing about this is that the plane is actually owned and inhabited by a man named Bruce Campbell – no, not the actor! He converted the plane into a home and uses it as his primary, yet unconventional, living space. Would you live in a plane like this if you had the opportunity?

Window cleaners have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, but you can’t deny the views are something special. Here, the cleaners in Moscow, Russia, are making sure the folks in the offices can see the magnificent landscape.
The drone caught them at work during tusk, adding a golden glow to the already majestic composition of the photograph. Considering the dangers of their job, we must appreciate it every time they venture alongside these buildings. Would you go up there?
Lively Lilies
In Vietnam, there lives a lady who loves the lilies. In a pond in the Mekong Delta, a woman gets out her boat and collects the flowers that grow up through the water and into the sky. She collects the lilies on the surface of the water and arranges them in the shape of one, large, photo.
This photo was submitted to the International Drone Photography Contest – coming in second. Perhaps the people who voted didn’t like lilies as much as the lady. What photo came number one?
Optical Illusions
You might be wondering what a boat is doing on the surface of a dry and cracked desert. Amazingly, this is actually a lake with such clear water that you can see through right to the bottom of the surface. You can see the subtle water rings created by the couple who are stirring the water.
Located in Virginia, Burke Lake is known for its amazing scenic views. The photo is called ‘Cracked Mud Boating’ taken by a drone photographer in the USA.
Hungry Hippos
They may not look it, but hippos are actually one of the most dangerous animals in the world. It makes sense that the photographer of this drone picture would want to keep a distance from these water beasts!
During feeding time, we see how close they stay with each other as they look for where they can get a meal. Because no one likes to eat alone, right? A mix of young and old – big and small – shows how family-orientated hippos are in the tribe.
Fantastic Forts And Where To Snap Them
This Dutch fort was built almost 300 years ago and now is open to the public as a historical museum. The star-shaped walls and protective moat still stand strong today making it a highly popular visiting site for tourists who wouldn’t usually visit the small town in Holland.
The forest surrounding it is maintained by the museum and can be spotted from the skies, as observed in this drone photograph. Would you go sailing around its borders? A perfect idea after leaving Amsterdam!
River Lines
This award-winning photograph is not the painting it appears to be! This drone traveled all the way up the freezing mountains of Iceland, rising 1500ft above the land, to show the world the amazing feats of nature. The swirling lines and majestic ice trails are something out of a Disney film.

Mexican Wave
A photo like this perfectly encapsulates where certain actions can get their name. This shot of Mexico City shows how citizens built a city and populated a space along rolling hills. It’s no small accomplishment, either: Mexico City is home to 21 million people, making it the most populous city in the Western Hemisphere.
The image shows thousands of homes all wrapped around the Earth’s crust, acting as a metaphor for the ups and downs of life’s challenges.
Driver Groans, Photographer Drones
One person’s misfortune is another person’s photograph. This lorry driver is in the middle of a pretty bad day after tipping over and spilling is shipment of materials.

We know that trees are as deep as they are high. Over time, their roots sink, twist, and turn deep into the ground and catch a firm grasp on planet Earth. What we can see here is the impact of that.

When Jerone Courtial traveled to France, he was determined to capture something that wasn’t your average tourist photo. He and his girlfriend flew to Valensole and patiently waited.
Thankfully, he caught this image and was rewarded as Dronestagram’s 2017 winner. Today, he says it is his favorite photo that he has ever taken. Apparently, the 39-year-old spent a little too long waiting!
We’re Expecting

We like how big the shadows are from up above; it reinforces how much of an impact we leave even though we may not realize it. Next time you’re on your phone, don’t be afraid to look up and explore the world.
Two Moo
Luke Bell took this photo which shows a similar perspective to the previous photo. Although the cows may look flat from directly above, it is their long-reaching shadow that leaves an impression on the viewer.
According to Bell, he took the photo in South Africa after he saw them drinking in a nearby dam. He credits the drone for being able to capture a shot that otherwise would have been impossible.
The Angel Of The North
This impressive statue is located in England and stands 66 feet tall. Its wings spread a massive 177 feet across, making it an unbelievable site when driving down the motorway next to it.
The Angel of the North was erected in 1998 and was designed by Anthony Gormley. He set out to create a ‘sense of embrace’, which is even more powerful from the image captured by a drone.
Hurricane Harvey
The world can be an amazing place, but nature doesn’t come without its tragedies. Here, we can see how Hurricane Harvey absolutely destroyed parts of Texas and Louisiana, causing $125 billion worth of damage.
Along with Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it remains one of America’s most deadly and costly natural disasters. 30,000 people were displaced, and we can see the extent of the damage from above.

This drone image just shows us how important the hierarchical systems are in the ocean waters. As this shark swims, there is a circle of fish around him keeping their distance in case he gets hungry!

According to the photographer, this picture is part of a larger collection that highlights the damage caused to the landscape by industrial waste. It may look pretty to us, but it actually shows the damage humans have caused.

This is an incredibly simple yet effective image captured on a DJI Mavic Pro. We can see a dancer practicing in the center of an old courtyard in Shanghai, China.
The photographer has commented: “Shanghai’s only nearly 190-year-old courtyard house with northern features is rarely seen in the south, where dancers dance not only skirts but also old Shanghai memories” We think it’s a great photo.

This photo was taken by Todd Kennedy while he was on his honeymoon in Australia. You can’t quite see them here, but the newlyweds are actually walking alongside the camels on the coast, which must be at the end of the day because of the shadows cast.
Similar to photos previously on the list, the placement of the drone and the sun enlarges the animals and increases their impact on the Earth.
Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, Dubai
This exclusive hotel in Dubai used to be the country’s tallest building. It was constructed on its own island and requires a dress code to enter. Here, the drone hs caught a glimpse of what the building normally looks like.
On special occasions, the helipad is turned into a tennis court and attracts millions of people to look at the bizarre sight. To date, it is one of the most amazing buildings in the country.

Photographer Bryan Dumas used his drone to fly across New York’s Central Park on a cold winter morning, making for an amazing photo. We love how the middle of the city has been left for nature – which has all been covered in a snowy blanket.

Here is a great example of how nature can be curbed to be aesthetically pleasing for farmers and artists. This drone captures the rows of vines that stretch off for miles. Even though the shot isn’t as high up as the others on the list, it doesn’t make it less impressive.

The City Of Homs
This image shows the impact of war from up above. The Syrian civil war began in 2011 and shows no signs of slowing down. The opposition party’s offices took a nasty hit when they were attacks – as shown here.
The civil war has decimated much of the region leaving the country years behind in the rest of the world. Amazingly, the drone can capture angles unseen before – showing the extent of the damage caused by both sides of the conflict.

The truth is out there – or is it in there? This drone image captures the places that scientists are willing to explore to find out more about our world. Apparently, this is just one of the drones on the mission – many got too close and burned to a crisp.

A Friendly Follower
When a drone reaches the high skies above, you never know what it might capture. These sailors got a little more than they bargained for when they realized they had a huge shark following them. Overall, the video recorded more than 15 minutes of journey time – this is just one of the images.
Thankfully, he was a friendly giant and nothing too disastrous happened. Something like this can only touch the surface when examining man’s relationship with nature.
Silverdome
This image of the Detroit Lions football stadium shows just how far the city has fallen in recent years. After the new field pitch was completed in 2002, team members and fans moved to another location, leaving this one high and dry.
Today, the Silverdome sits pretty abandoned and left alone. While there are no plans to restore the building, locals have it as a reminder of better days for the city.
El Nino Damage
This spooky photo shows the damage caused by the El Nino phenomenon. It also shows the reasons why all its citizens had to leave this neighborhood, understandably. It is expected that the rest of this coastline will fully collapse any day now.
This drone managed to capture the site of the breaking coastline just in time. It is amazing how much power nature has over humans. We are just guests on this planet, after all.
Battle Of The Fishes
This image displays Panama City Beach, Florida, and captures one of the most well-times drone pictures ever. This poor fisherman thought he had caught a normal fish, but before he knew it he was in a battle with a vicious Hammerhead shark!
Onlookers watched patiently as he tackled the fish – he wasn’t going to give up that easily! He said: “We weren’t directly targeting hammerhead sharks but when your line is out there you never know what you’re going to hook on to.”
Flooded Six Flags
Here lies Six Flags Magic Mountain under a pool of water. The photo captures the park two months after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 in New Orleans. Sadly, the park was closed for repairs but was never reopened after it was deemed too expensive.
Despite the many plans that have been proposed by public and private companies, no one has decided what to do with it. Even though it is technically abandoned, there are police officers who parole the area 24/7 in case of any trespassers.
Mont Saint Michel
This is one of the photos from ‘Dronestagram’ – a travel photography competition. Mont Saint Michel is in Normandy, France, and is perhaps one of the most recognizable UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world.
In the distance, the drone user captured the monastery that sits on the mountain. Historians believe it was built in the 8th century, making it one of the oldest buildings still standing today. Depending on the tide levels, visitors can walk to it from the hills.
Hong Kong From Above
The best part of drones is being able to see from above. And while they offer us new insights into nature, we can also marvel at the wonders of manmade cities. Here, we can see how this drone user flew above the towers in Hong Kong.
Looking at this photo, it’s no surprise to know that Hong Kong is actually the fourth most populated city in the world. It might seem crowded on the ground, but we can enjoy the serenity from up above with this image.
Guatemalan Damages
This incredible image shows us the full depth of a sinkhole that appeared in 2010. Guatemala City was hit by a tropical storm called Agatha that wreaked havoc for its millions of citizens. It is estimated that the sinkhole is 65 feet wide and 300 feet deep.
There are no immediate plans to restore it – but there are hopes it can get covered and the area surrounding it can be rebuilt. For now, visitors can marvel at the powers of Mother Nature.
Lone Crocodile
Here, we can see the lonely life of a crocodile in full swing. This croc is actually a whopping three meters long and is seen swimming in the waters near Phuket, Thailand. Since Phuket is known to be a popular vacation spot, tourists should watch out!
This image was taken after his escape from a crocodile park nearby. It’s a good thing that this drone could fly across the waters to locate him – perhaps lives were saved by doing so.
Water Plane
Is this magical or terrifying? One one hand, it’s amazing that the Canadian waters in Quebec are so clear that we can see these divers explore this sunken plane. But one the other hand: what happened to make it lie there at the bottom of a quarry?
Well, it turns out that the plane – as well as cars and other vehicles – were sunk to make it more exciting for SCUBA divers. We may be looking at this from up above, but the real experience is in its waters.
Flying Ducks
This photo shows a fisherman in Tuy Hoa City, Vietnam. Those animals surrounding him are his many ducks that he also happens to be farming. Apparently, Duck Farming is quite popular in the region and helps with agriculture and meat trading.
Overall, Vietnam houses 30 million ducks a year, and it looks as though most of them are in this photograph. It looks as though they are trying to avoid him – it’s clearly not dinner time! Imagine all the eggs they lay.
Staten Island Boat Graveyard
Here is an image from one of New York’s best-kept secrets: its boat graveyard. In the 1930s, citizens in Staten Island decided to build and maintain a salvage yard, where locals could buy and trade necessary items.

The Fate of Pegasus
This image almost looks photoshopped, but alas it’s simply the work of a good drone operator. Pegasus Airlines Flight 8622 was supposed to take off from Trabzon and land in Ankara a few hours later. Unfortunately, it never even took off.
It slid during takeoff and rolled right into the rocky cliffs. Fortunately, it stopped short before entering the Black Sea and not a single person on the 168-passenger jet was injured. The airport was closed shortly after this.
California Burnin’
The Tubbs Fire hit California in October 2017, causing billions of dollars worth of damage. Forest fires are fairly natural and anticipated in California, but Tubbs Fire was by far the worst in the state’s history.
Overall, the fire burned for days and destroyed more than 5,600 buildings. Many celebrities mourned on social media how one of their homes had been ruined. For the everyday, average American, the damage was life-changing.
The Glory Hole
Yeah, not that kind of glory hole. Here is a drone image of Kraken Hole in California, USA. Although it looks like one of nature’s mistakes, this is actually an artificial spillway designed to monitor the water levels.
Even though it’s manmade, you can’t deny how fantastic it looks from above. Something like this can best be appreciated from up above and shows us how amazing our relationship can be with the natural elements.
Windy Selfies
Whether or not this man was atop a wind turbine to conduct repairs, he made sure to have some fun along the way. When he climbed up to fly his drone along the landscape, why wouldn’t he grab a picture of himself?
It’s a great way to show how big these turbines are and how there are many people around the world who work on providing natural energies. It reminds us of the famous shot of Jeff Bezos atop the Amazon turbines.
Look Out!
What happens if you fly your drone somewhere it doesn’t belong? You might see it compete against an angry resident trying to get rid of it! In those scary few moments while the drone is trying to escape, the flyer captured this image.
It appears that she doesn’t like unsolicited visitors with a camera flying over her head – and we can’t blame her. Currently, there are no rules about flying drones over people’s private property. Let’s see how long it goes before this changes.

This one is not for the faint-hearted! If you’re scared of heights, you might be amazed to see this drone capturing such a powerful image of a climber in the mountains. We don’t know if this is for work or pleasure, but either way, we imagine he’s enjoying himself.
Interestingly, it’s important to note the value that drones can bring to moments like this. If anything were to happen to this gentleman, the crew on the ground would immediately know and could help him.

This unique image captures the number of people in ways that would not be effective from the ground level. We hate the idea of being stuck in the middle of this cluster, but we imagine that’s what they signed up for when they agree to do this.

Another feat in human architecture, this Lotus Temple is located deep in Delhi, India. The structure was designed to represent a lotus and was designed by a famous Iranian architect.
