Who’s a good boy? Well, Americans have voted and made it decidedly clear: the Labrador retriever is America’s favorite dog. Sorry, cat lovers – you’re going to want to sit this one out.
According to the American Kennel Club, it is the 28th year in a row the breed has claimed the title.
Labradors are described as loyal and dependable by their owners, making them the perfect companion for humans.
Overall, the top 10 list remained unchanged except for ninth and tenth places that swapped: German shorthaired pointer moved up and usurped the Yorkshire terrier.
Here is the complete top 10 list:
- Labrador retriever
- German shepherd
- Golden retriever
- French bulldog
- Standard bulldog
- German shorthaired pointer
- Yorkshire terrier
It’s not just their personalities that make them so popular: their striking physique has made them desirable among fashion brands. Even Ralph Lauren has employed a Lab to model for them over the years.
Cat Long, a co-founder of All Creatures Great & Small, runs a professional animal talent agency out of new york and agrees.
“They are a classic, traditional, American dog. They are known to be loyal, great family dogs, gentle, smart, trainable, an incredibly well-rounded dog.”
