Who Has An EGOT? These Celebrities Are Almost There

What’s better than winning an award? Well, winning four, of course!

An EGOT is a term for someone who has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. The awards represent achievements in television, music, film, and theater respectively. To date, there are only 15 people in the world who have achieved such success – with an additional six achieving EGOT status through honorary awards.

Many celebrities are almost on their way to earning this prestigious title. We breakdown some of the celebrities who can almost claim the title, provided they compete in the necessary award shows.

Adele has won an impressive nine Grammys for her record-breaking albums over the years. She also won an Oscar for her soundtrack to the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall.

She has yet to win an Emmy or a Tony, although we can definitely see her performing on stage soon! The singer is famously private and so we probably won’t see her acting on television show any time soon. We guess she’ll have to settle for a few more Grammys!

Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington is halfway to an EGOT. The actor already has two Oscars for Glory and Training Day, as well as a Tony for Fences. All he needs now is a Grammy and an Emmy.

Unfortunately, we don’t think Washington is seasoned in the music field and so we can’t see him releasing a song anytime soon! He could always work on television and try his luck at an Emmy award – we could see him in a Netflix drama!

Andrew Lloyd Webber

This Broadway sensation has won an amazing seven Tonys for his work over the years. The music he writes is wrapped in gold – earning him four Grammys. His Oscar win came from Evita – meaning he’s just one Emmy away from the EGOT.

If Andrew Lloyd Webber decides to work in television and produce a musical special, we have no doubt that he would take home the Emmy needed to make his collection complete.

Julie Andrews

This British gem amazingly doesn’t have an EGOT, although we think she deserves it! Julie Andrews won an Oscar for her role as Mary Poppins, and an additional two Emmys for The Julie Andrews Hour and Broadway: The American Musical.

In 2011, Andrews won two Grammys – making her one step away! All she needs now a Tony award and she can take home the EGOT title. The starlet definitely has it in her! Julie Andrews last appeared in 2018’s Aquaman.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis already has three of the four awards needed, only missing out on a Grammy. Davis won Tony awards for Fences, and King Hedley II, and took home an Emmy for her work on How To Get Away With Murder.

Fences was adapted into a film in 2016 which won her the Oscar the following year. Who knows, we might see Viola Davis record an album in the future to see her earn the prestigious EGOT status.

Cynthia Nixon

Is there anything Cynthia Nixon can’t do? The former Sex and the City star won an Emmy for her television work and a Grammy for An Inconvenient Truth. Alongside a Tony for Rabbit Hole, all that’s left is an Oscar.

In 2018, Cynthia Nixon ran as governor of New York but lost the election – perhaps she should pursue an Oscar? It is the last accolade needed for her to earn EGOT status. She is next appearing on television in Ratched, in 2020.

Sam Smith

Similar to Adele, Sam Smith won his Oscar for Best Orginal Song for the James Bond theme in Spectre. Of course, he started his career in music and won many Grammys for his album In The Lonely Hour and his hit song Stay With Me.

Next up for Smith is a Tony and an Emmy – do we think it’s possible? At the moment, the singer hasn’t shown much interest in acting outside of music videos, but we shouldn’t rule it out. At 26, he has a long career ahead of him.

Jessica Lange

This star is only one away from the prestigious EGOT group – will she go for it? The American Horror Story actress has won Emmys for her performance, as well as an Oscar for Tootsie and a Tony for Long Day’s Journey Into The Night.

Michele K. Short/FX

All that’s missing for Jessica Lange is a Grammy. We don’t believe that she has any singing skills, but perhaps she can release her memoirs on audiobook? That way, she could earn all four.

Al Pacino

Al Pacino won an Oscar for his performance in Scent Of A Woman. He also has two Emmys and two Tonys, making for quite a resume! All he needs now is a Grammy and he can take home the EGOT title.

Getty Images

Despite an impressive foray into film and television, the 78-year-old actor has never shown signs of entering the musical field, so an EGOT for Pacino seems unlikely at this point. Would you like to hear him sing at some point?

Justin Timberlake

Amazingly, Justin Timberlake won an Emmy for his performance on SNL as a guest actor in a comedy series. Of course, he has a seasoned career in music and has already taken home five Grammys for each of his classic albums.

Timberlake has already appeared in a few films by now, so perhaps he can pick up an Oscar? The former N*Sync singer would also need to win a Tony award. We think he’s up to it.

Neil Patrick Harris

No stranger to the Tonys, Neil Patrick Harris actually won four Emmys for hosting the theater award’s show! He also won a Tony for his performance in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

All that’s left for this superstar is a Grammy and an Oscar. Although we would love to hear an album of his, we can’t help but think he needs more film work. He last had a small role in the disappointing 2017 film Downsizing, opposite Matt Damon.

Donald Glover

It appears that there’s nothing that Glover can’t do. Quite frankly, everything he touches turns to gold. He’s already won a Grammy for Redbone and two Emmys for Atlanta.

He’s halfway to earning an EGOT, and we think it’s very possible he could win an Oscar and Tony in his career. He is already a seasoned stage performer with his standup comedy, so we have plenty of stage work to look forward to in the future.

Lin-Manuel Miranda

Thanks to smash hit Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda is already halfway to earning an EGOT. He received a Tony and a Grammy for the broadway show, and also has an Emmy for his performance on the Tonys.

All that’s left for Miranda is an Oscar. We see him already on our screens, most recently in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns. If they make a film adaptation of Hamilton, we might just see him earn the prestigious title.

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson is halfway to joining the EGOT club – she only needs a Tony and an Emmy. Hudson already won an Oscar for Dreamgirls and a Grammy for her self-titled album, Jennifer Hudson.

Copyright: 2016 NBC Universal Media

We don’t think it would be hard for her to win a Tony, the superstar is an amazing singer and has wowed audiences for 15 years. If Hudson appears on television, we’re sure she would be able to take home the awards needed. Let’s see what happens.

Martin Scorsese

This classic director only needs a Tony to join the EGOT club. The 76-year-old won an Oscar for the 2004 hit The Departed, and has picked up an Emmy for HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. The filmmaker has also earned a Grammy for his work on a music video – American Masters: No Direction Home.

If he enters the theater field, we have no doubt he will be capable of earning a Tony and receiving EGOT status. Do you think we will see this happen?

Jeremy Irons

Irons has three out of four – only relying on a Grammy to earn EGOT status. He won an Oscar for Reversal of Fortune, two Emmys for his work on Elizabeth I and The Great War and Shaping of the 20th Century, and a Tony for The Real Thing.

Getty Images

Recently, Irons has portrayed Alfred in the DC Extended Universe opposite Ben Affleck’s Batman. Next up, Irons would need a Grammy award – but can he sing? We’d love to find out.

Kate Winslet

Similar to Julie Andrews, Kate Winslet is just one Tony Award away from an EGOT. Winslet already has an Oscar for The Reader, a Grammy for Listen to the Storyteller, and an Emmy for Mildred Pierce.

Getty Images

We think Kate Winslet could get the Tony and take home the prestigious title sometime soon. At 43, the English actress has a long career ahead of her to make it work! To date, Kate Winslet hasn’t appeared on stage, but we don’t write it off.

Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren won her Oscar for the incredible performance as Queen Elizabeth in The Queen. As well as her Oscar, she has also won four Emmys and a Tony (when she reprised the role of the Queen for a stage performance).

Getty Images

All that’s left is a Grammy and Mirren is safely in EGOT territory. Who knows, perhaps the Queen will release a memoire and Mirren can voice the audiobook? We can’t see either of them releasing an album any time soon!

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx already won an Oscar for her performance in 2004’s Ray. He also has two Grammys for Gold Digger and Blame It. Next up, he will need to win an Emmy and a Tony to join the EGOT club.

Although he appears in television shows like Beat Shazam and White Famous, he will need to work a bit harder to earn a nomination for it! His last award was in 2005 and he has yet to appear on the stage.

Bryan Cranston

After an impressive run as Walter White in Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston won a total of three Emmys across the five-year run. He also won a Tony award for his run as Lyndon B. Johnson in All The Way.

Credit:James Gourley/REX/Shutterstock

The actor is halfway to winning an EGOT since he needs an Oscar and a Grammy. While we have no doubt that Cranston could one day take home an Oscar, we see little evidence that the actor can sing.

Cher has received three of the four awards needed to gain EGOT status. She has an Oscar for Moonstruck, an Emmy for Cher: The Farewell Tour, and a Grammy for Believe. All that’s missing is a Tony award – which makes us wonder why she hasn’t won one yet!

Anthony Harvey

Although she frequently tours and performs on stage, she has never appeared in a theater production. If she ever has a change of heart we’re sure it will be a success!

Taylor Swift

T-Swift has proven herself to be a huge musical talent. With countless Grammys for 1989, White Horse, Bad Blood, and more, Swift has also won an Emmy for her original interactive program.

The pop star is halfway to EGOT status, needing an Oscar and a Tony. At only 29, there’s no reason she can’t accomplish this with a long and promising career ahead of her. Would you like to see Taylor Swift make her debut on the big screen?

Hugh Jackman

He might be best known for his movie role as Wolverine, but Jackman is a seasoned theater performer! He hosted the Tonys in 2004 which ultimately earned him an Emmy.

Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP

Hugh Jackman also won an additional two Emmys: one for The Boy From Oz and one special award for Extraordinary Contribution to the Theatre Community. All that’s needed from the superhero actor is a Grammy and an Oscar. We’re sure he can do it, based on his musical talent.

Frances McDormand

Frances McDormand is known as having ‘The Triple Crown of Acting’ – a performer with an Oscar, Emmy, and a Tony. It is only the elusive musical award of the Grammy that she’s missing to complete her EGOT status.

Craig Sjodin/ABC

McDormand is best known for her performances in films like Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Burn After Reading, and Fargo. She most recently appeared in Isle of Dogs.

Geoffrey Rush

Is Rush rushing for an EGOT? Geoffrey Rush has an Oscar for Shine, an Emmy for The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, and a Tony for Exit the King. All that’s missing for the 67-year-old Australian actor is a Grammy and he will complete the quartet of accolades.

It appears that he has never contemplated a move into music, and so an EGOT for Rush seems unlikely. Still, we can’t help but point out how close he is!

Lily Tomlin

Lily Tomlin has an impressive six Emmys under her belt, as well as two Tonys and a Grammy. The seasoned actress is just one Oscar away from earning EGOT status.

-AP/Matt Sayles

Recently, Lily Tomlin voiced Aunt May in Spider-Man: Into The Multi-verse. She hasn’t been nominated for her performance, but she keeps busy with other work so we can’t rule it out. Currently, she is starring in Netflix’s Grace and Frankie alongside Jane Fonda.

Maggie Smith

Maggie Smith has won an amazing six awards – but it missing a Grammy to complete her EGOT. To date, she has won three Emmys, two Oscars, and one Tony – not bad at all!

Young fans will most likely recognize Smith as Professor McGonnegol in the Harry Potter franchise and as the matriarch in Downton Abbey. Maggie Smith has had a career dating all the way back to 1954! Amazingly, she said her life was ‘normal’ until worldwide recognition as Violet Crawley.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone

These unlikely members of Hollywood are some of the most accomplished creatives working today. Since 1997, the pair has made audiences laugh with South Park – winning five Emmys for their work. The show is still going strong today.

UPI/Monika Graff.

In 2014, Book of Mormon changed the Broadway scene and they scooped up a Grammy and four Tonys for the show. That means they’re only one Oscar away from EGOT status. Will they take it to the big screen?

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones won an Oscar for her performance in the 2002 hit film Chicago. The actress is a talented stage performer, winning a Tony award for A Little Night Music. Next up, Zeta-Jones would have to win a Grammy – surely possible with her singing ability? – and an Emmy.

Copyright:2018 Kevork Djansezian/NBC

Catherine Zeta-Jones last appeared on television in the 2018 web-series Queen America. Do you think the actress is up to the challenge? We would love to hear a recorded album from her!

Elton John

Elton John is one of those people you expect to have joined the EGOT gang, but apparently not! The singer has an impressive record: an Oscar, six Grammys, and a Tony. His hit song Can You Feel The Love Tonight appeared in 1994’s The Lion King and won him a Grammy and an Oscar.

Copyright:2014 Getty Images

He has yet to win an award for television work and has barely made appearances on the medium. Perhaps he should work on a television show and aim for an EGOT?
