Do you like your job? Many of us try to escape the 9-5 grind of life. For some, the idea of touring the world in stadiums or performing on sitcoms is a dream come true. It beats going to the same office each day and saving up your 12 days of vacation each year.

These celebrities have had the very life that most of us dream of – so what happened? We’ve collected a bunch of celebs who now enjoy working the normal 9-5 job. So, let’s take a look at their stories.


Angelina Pivarnick

You may recognize Pivarnick from the first season of Jersey Shore. She joined the rest of the gang as someone who abides by ‘GTL’ (Gym, Tan, Laundry). At least, she was there for the start: Pivarnick realized that she had a higher calling than reality TV.

Today, Angelina Pivarnick has swapped GTL for EMT and is now working full time in an ambulance. Each day, she travels around and saves the lives of citizens. Good for her! Can you imagine having her as your doctor?

Lisa Whelchel

When you appear on a show called The Facts of Life, it’s important to take the good and the bad from the experience! After marrying her husband, Steven Cauble, the actress decided to stay at home as a mom and author.

Since leaving the acting gig, Whelchel has become somewhat of a prolific writer. She has written more than 10 books about motherhood, religion, and even an entire autobiography. Lisa Whelchel did return to TV one more time: as a contestant on Survivor: Philippines, coming in second place.

Erik Estrada

Erik Estrada is famous for his role as California Highway Patrol officer, Frank Poncherello, on the classic show CHiPs. Well, it must have left quite an impression on the actor. After the show, he got a job as the deputy sheriff for Bedford County, Virginia!

Today, he is a reserve police officer in St. Anthony, Idaho. Estrada had always dreamt of becoming an officer – he even got to practice as one on TV! How cool would it be to see this TV star protect your streets?

Al Green

There’s definitely a chance you heard Al Green’s classic ballad Let’s Stay Together from the 1970s. The legend rose to fame within Rock and Roll and Soul, becoming one of the most iconic voices of the 20th century. So, what happened?

Sadly, his relationship with former girlfriend Mary Woodson White can to a shocking end. Al Green decided to reconsider his life path and he became a pastor in Tennessee. Quite the change from a Rock ‘n’ Roll life!

Lauren Conrad

Laren Conrad attracted an audience through her appearance in Laguna Beach. Eventually, she was ‘promoted’ to the sequel series, The Hills. Through her position on reality TV, Conrad garnered an audience of millions each week. So where is she today?

Even though she was one of the best-paid members of the show, Conrad decided to stay away from the fickleness of fame and enter the world of business. Since leaving the show, Conrad has launched a successful clothing line and has written a book series.

Lisa and Louise Burns

You might not recognize these two right away, but they left an iconic mark on cinematic history. Lisa and Louise Burns played the twins in The Shining, and have been shocking audiences through their work since 1980.

So where are they today? Since growing into adults, Lisa and Louise both pursued careers away from the silver screen. Lisa is a successful lawyer and Louise is a published scientist. Quite the difference from their child star pasts!

Taran Noah Smith

Taran Noah Smith grew up right in front of our eyes as Mark Taylor on the wildly popular Home Improvement. Since the show came to its end, Smith has been collecting his annual residuals which allowed him to chase any dream he wanted.

Well, he’s putting it to good use! Smith helped found Playfood – a company dedicated to making vegan cheese. It is estimated that the market will reach $4 billion by 2024. In his spare time, he also volunteers in his local community.  

Geoffrey Owens

Geoffrey Owens was thrown into the national spotlight last year after the Daily Mail wrote an article shaming him for ‘only’ working as a supermarket cashier at Trader Joe’s. Owens was a regular on The Cosby Show and has lived a quiet life since the show came to an end.

According to Owens, he is still actively auditioning and acting in between his commitment to his 9-5 job. After the article about him went viral, he was invited to the SAG awards and was honored for his contribution to television.

Jeff Cohen

Steven Spielberg spotted a young Jeff Cohen and immediately knew he was right for The Goonies. Despite a successful run in cinema during his youth, Cohen knew it wasn’t right for him and he bowed out of cinema. But to do what?

Angus T. Jones

Angus T. Jones is one of the most recent child stars on our list. Jones became famous around the world after he was cast as the ‘half’ on CBS’ Two and a Half Men. During his time on the show, we saw him grow up from a young child to fully flown adult.

Gene Hackman

Most of the actors on this list earned their fame early in life and settled into a calmer adult life – but not Gene Hackman! Hackman has enjoyed a long career as a television star, but you probably haven’t seen him on the big screen recently.

Peter Ostrum

You might not recognize his name, but you’ll certainly know him from the big screen. In fact, he left quite an impression on fans after appearing in only ONE film. Ostrum played Charlie in the 1971 film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Dylan Sprouse

Dylan Sprouse came to our screens in the 1990s as he and twin Cole would often partner up to play children. In their youth, you would recognize them as playing Ben in Friends or Julian in 1999’s Big Daddy opposite Adam Sandler.

Dylan Sprouse decided to take a break from acting and pursue other opportunities. He attended NYU and even started up a brewery business in Brooklyn, New York. Jamie Walters first appeared on Beverly Hills 90210 after Tori Spelling got him written into the show. Walters played a musician boyfriend who had hopes to make it big in the music industry. Well, did Jamie Walters share those dreams?

Pop sensation Tiffany was absolutely everywhere in the 1980s with hits like I Think We’re Alone Now. Well, after her massive success as a star, it turns out that the young girl wanted a more stable life and returned home to Nashville, Tennessee.

Gosselin used to spend each and every day in front of the camera when he was the star of the reality TV show, Jon & Kate Plus 8. The show followed Jon and his wife with their twins and sextuplets. It was about just as crazy as you could imagine!

Shirley Temple

She may have been a child darling in her early years, but as Shirley Temple grew up she failed to find her place in Hollywood. After a successful start in left, Temple decided to retire from acting in 1950. So, what happened next?

Well, Shirley Temple entered politics and eventually accomplished great things as the US Ambassador to Ghana. This is one example of stars turning to politics for a second job and achieving great things once leaving Hollywood. After death, Temple has two lasting legacies.

For a time, Rick Moranis was everywhere. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Moranis appeared in films like Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, and Honey I Shrunk The Kids. In fact, as the years went on it was almost impossible to avoid him! So what happened?
