Chris Pratt: Hollywood’s Lone Conservative?

It appears that Marvel star Chris Pratt has gotten himself in a bit of trouble this week. He was spotted wearing a T-shirt with something some people find absolutely unconscionable:

The American flag.

Social media users have rushed to criticize the Guardians of the Galaxy star for sporting the shirt that shows a coiled snake in front of the US flag. Underneath, the words ‘don’t tread on me’ can be seen.

The combination of the writing and the snake on the flag historically rose to prominence during the Revolutionary War. It was worn by US colonists who sought independence from the British.

Today, it is known as the Gadsden flag and has been adopted by some far-right internet users. It is another subtle hint that Chris Pratt might be among some of the few who identify as a Republican in Hollywood.

This isn’t the first time Pratt has shared right-leaning sentiments. He has often been a vocal supporter of the second amendment, as well as being a member of the Hillsong Church. Chris Pratt attends the church with his new wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger. Her father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, served as the Republican governor of California from 2003-2011.

In 2018, Pratt publicly thanked God during his acceptance speech for his Teen Choice Award for Summer Movie Actor and Actress. “I love Him, and you should, too!” he told the young audience.

Of course, someone’s political leanings shouldn’t be the focus of his or her career. However, it is notable that Chris Pratt appears to be one of the few actors in Hollywood who unabashedly supports America and promotes Christian values.

Due to his support of religion and faith, fans online are already rushing to boycott his future films. It is unclear whether his commitment to religion will impact his career, but looking at the most recent Marvel box office numbers, we think he will be just fine.

Other prominent conservatives in Hollywood include Clint Eastwood, Tim Allen, and James Woods. Allen once told audiences that you have to be careful in Hollywood about sharing conservative ideas. The following week, his hit show Last Man Standing was canceled by ABC.

James Woods was also recently fired by his agent for promoting conservative ideas on Twitter.

Do you think Chris Pratt is a Republican? Does it matter?
