It came as quite a surprise when, on January 6, 2020, she sat across Oprah Winfrey in front of an audience of millions of viewers to talk about her mental illness.

How Lady Gaga’s Mental Illness Began

Lady Gaga explained that when she was nineteen, she was sexually assaulted over a period of time by the same person. This event caused her body to go into complete trauma and she now suffers from a condition called fibromyalgia, which affects the nervous system and constantly causes pain throughout her body.

She explained how she hurts every day, but has a team of people that help her get through the pain with daily workouts and therapy.

She also discussed that she had a mental breakdown a few years ago and is currently on a lot of medication, including an antipsychotic.

Wanting To Help Others

She really is amazing because she expressed that through her fame, she wants to do good in the world, and help others with mental health struggles. Both her and Oprah agreed that there is a huge stigma against people with mental health problems and it needs to stop.
