Oktoberfest was born in the 1800s and since then has cemented its place as one of the world’s largest and most famous festivals. People from all over the world flock to Munich, Bavaria, Germany in their lederhosen to drink beer, enjoy live music, rides and the best of the local food. But don’t feel too left out as the iconic festival has begun popping up in all corners of the world so you can attend the one closest to you.
Japan has a few Oktoberfest celebrations around the country but Tokyo’s tops them all. From pretzels to German beer, Bavarian music and other festivities, the capital goes all out in making it an experience to remember.
It might be on the other side of the world, but Sydney, Australia has also jumped on the Oktoberfest bandwagon. Australia’s Oktoberfest in the Gardens tours through Peth, Adelaide, Melbourne before finishing in Sydney where the party really gets going. The Aussies really go all out in their costumes and making the most of the festival.
You don’t even need to leave America to get your fix of Oktoberfest as Cincinnati knows how to do it big. Expect German sausages, huge German beers and plenty of entertainment. For almost 40 years, the annual Oktoberfest Zinzinnati festival has drawn in crowds in their thousands coming to get their fix outside of Europe.
It is considered Canada’s Greatest Bavarian Festival and the nine-day event attracts over 700,000 revellers each year. Going into its 50th year, the event looks to be bigger than ever featuring authentic German delicacies, live music and of course gallons of beer.
Brazil know how to do festivals right so there was no way they would miss out on putting on a big show for their own version of Oktoberfest. It is the second largest festival to the original one in Munch, despite it being over 6,000 miles away. Brazil’s German heritage plays a big part in their love of the festival and they even give out free beer during the event each year.
