Simple Tips to Help You Look Younger

Some easy-to-use methods that will shed the years off your body, mind, and soul

Getting older means taking on new and strenuous responsibilities. As you start juggling between your career, marriage, and kids, you’re likely to encounter new stress levels that were never there during your youth.

With so much on your plate, a lack of rest and relaxation is not an uncommon occurrence. While you may start to feel the sleep deprivation and long work hours taking a toll on your body, it is not too late to turn back the clock and feel youthful and rejuvenated once again. Here are some quick and easy methods that you can use to revitalize your body, mind, and soul!

Moisturizer Is Key

As you get older, your hormone levels drop, causing your skin to get drier. This makes it necessary to hydrate your skin on a regular basis. Do this by applying a rich moisturizer to your face, neck, and hands.

While many people believe that applying moisturizer is only necessary for people with dry skin, this is not true. Moisturizing has many benefits for people of all skin types. Not only does it protect the skin from the effects of stress and pollution, but it also keeps your skin hydrated during changes of seasons when the weather’s effects on your skin become harsher.

Get The Right Haircut

Having a haircut that suits your hairline can take years off of your physical appearance. This is especially true for men who are either balding or suffering from thinning hair. While you may think that having long hair will help cover up a receding hairline, the opposite is in fact true.

Because of gravity, longer strands of hair tend to lie closer to the scalp, thereby exposing more skin on the top of your head. Getting a shorter, more layered haircut will result in less scalp being visible. From crew cuts to buzz cuts and even comb-overs, there are a number of modern hairstyles that you can sport to help you look youthful and remain in-style!

Enjoy A Power Nap

According to NASA, taking a 25-minute nap increases alertness by 54 percent and performance by 34 percent. This is not the only time that research has found benefits associated with taking a short nap. Other studies have found that taking a short nap can boost your memory and even assist in critical thinking.

Photo by bruce mars from Pexels

To get the most out of your power nap, make sure to set an alarm on your phone so that you don’t oversleep- aim to sleep for less than 30 minutes so you don’t wake up groggy. Wearing an eye mask or sleeping in a dark room can also help you fall asleep quickly while using a blanket will help regulate your body temperature.

Take Care Of Your Hands

The state of someone’s hands can be a dead giveaway of age. Having gnawed and stumpy fingernails can be a sign of immaturity, while rough hands are a sign of ageing. Be sure to trim your nails using a nail clipper and use a file to give them a good shape. Do your best to avoid biting your nails.

Rub olive oil into your hands to keep them hydrated. Olive oil is a natural moisturizer that will be sure to soften your cuticles. It is also a good idea to consider using nail polish to obtain a youthful, fashionable look!

Enjoy Regular Massages

It’s no secret that prolonged stress can result in wrinkles. This is not just a result of physical activities, but mental strains as well. By enjoying a regular massage, you can alleviate your body and mind of both of these types of stress.

Massages have plenty of physical benefits, including improved circulation, more flexibility, and the elimination of toxins. Massages have also been shown to improve sleep and reduce fatigue. In a mental sense, getting a massage is a relaxing activity that can help alleviate the mental pressure that you incurred during your workday or from family duties. Consider going for regular massages so that you can enjoy constant relief from stress and anxiety.

Don’t Be Shy- Get Manis And Pedis!

It does not matter whether you are a man or a woman- this is a great way to remain vibrant and youthful. Having moisturized hands and feet, trimmed nails, and a new shade of nail polish will help you feel refreshed.

Photo by Kris Atomic on Unsplash

While some men may be hesitant to visit a nail salon, getting a manicure or pedicure is an activity that can prove beneficial for men too. The massage you get during the treatment will help with blood circulation and improve joint mobility. It will also help you to avoid getting dry, wrinkly hands.

Take Multivitamins

With so many different health diets out there, it is still difficult to consume all of the vitamins and nutrients that you need. For this reason, it is a good idea to take a multivitamin. Because there is no standard formula for all multivitamins, different products will include different combinations of vitamins.

Photo by Michele Blackwell on Unsplash

It is, therefore, a good idea to browse through the different options that are available and pick a product that provides you with the ingredients you lack from your regular diet. Taking the right multivitamin will help compensate for the nutrients you are lacking from food, thereby keeping you youthful in the process!

Hit The Gym

Exercise forms a crucial part of your physical wellbeing. By losing weight and becoming more toned and defined, you will quickly develop a more youthful appearance. If you do not have an exact idea of what to do at the gym, you could hire a personal trainer to show you the ropes. They will not only show you how to exercise but develop a regimen tailored to meet your workout goals.

Another option is to join a workout class. What’s great about joining a class is that you will be receiving workout directions from a knowledgeable instructor so that you can receive the full benefits of the training session. It is also fun to workout alongside other people in a social setting!

Curb Your Sugar Intake

While sugar is a common ingredient for many foods and drinks, it is an ingredient that can have aging effects on you if your intake is too high. This is especially true for sugar’s effects on your face. Just some of the consequences of “Sugar Face” include fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, and even sagging under the eyes.

Some of the ways that you can cut back on your sugar intake are by limiting your consumption of sodas and energy drinks, avoiding sweet desserts such as doughnuts and ice cream, and sticking to whole foods and full-fat foods as these types of food include minimal amounts of sugar.

Meditation

Not only will meditation relieve you of stress, but it will also help you to reach a state of calmness and composure. Set aside some time during your day, whether it’s during your lunch break or after work so that you can get in a few minutes of meditation on a regular basis.

Meditation is a practice that not only calms your nerves but also slows down aging. By meditating frequently, you can improve your self-awareness, increase your attention span, and improve your overall emotional health.

Fit Clothing Before Purchasing

Before buying an outfit that catches your eye, make sure that it fits correctly. This does not only mean that the size is right, but that the clothing complements your body type. Make sure that the clothing draws attention to the areas of your body that you are confident about so that you feel good when showing off your new look. Remember that while loose clothes can make it look like you’re hiding something, tight clothes can make it look like you are bulging out.

There are also ways that you can use your existing wardrobe to your advantage. Wearing a single color from head to toe can give you a slimming look while adding a snazzy tie or pocket square will make you look young and hip.

Deal With Grey Hairs Accordingly

As one of the best-known signs of aging, having grey hair is certainly going to make you look older. This doesn’t mean that you have to put up with the downsides of having grey hair, however.

Photo by Philipp Sewing on Unsplash

One solution for grey hair that you can try is to dye your hair back to its natural color. Find a highly-recommended hair salon that you can go to in order to regularly cover up your grey hair. Another solution would be to just accept your grey hairs and adopt a hairstyle that will make you look good regardless of your greying hair. Grey hair can still look great provided you have the confidence to show it off proudly.

Lay Off The Sodium

From salty french fries to deep dish pizzas, there are plenty of delicious foods that have their fair share of sodium. Unfortunately, too much sodium can have some damaging physical side effects.

Photo by Phuong Tran on Unsplash

Consuming too much sodium can suck out the moisture from your skin, as well as force your body to retain water. By retaining too much water, you can end up with puffy bags under your eyes. Do your best to stick to the recommended daily amount of 2,300 mg of sodium, which is approximately one teaspoon. You can check the ingredients list on food packaging to see how much sodium is included in each item you consume.

Keep Things Trim

If you are an adult man, then there is more to worry about than just grooming the hair on top of your head. Having a beard requires making sure to regularly trim and shape your facial hair so that it remains neat and presentable. If you have a longer beard, then be sure to comb all of the hair in one direction and use clippers to get an even cut. You can also approach a barber or hairdresser to do it on your behalf.

Once you are done cutting and styling your beard, consider using a beard moisturizer that will keep the hair healthy and prevent drying or itching. You should also make sure to trim other hairs, such as ear, nostril, and eyebrow hairs.

A Whiter Smile

While smiling is a great way to keep looking vibrant, having a mouthful of pearly white teeth will make that smile all the more impressive. Make sure to visit your dentist for regular cleanings, and use teeth whitening treatments such as whitening strips.

Even if your teeth are not as white as you would like them to be, laughing and smiling are great ways to stay young. Laughing is a great stress reliever, and making time to do things that make you happy will mean enjoying time with friends and doing the hobbies you love.

Put On Your Running Gear

As we discussed before, physical activity is a necessary component of a healthy lifestyle. While there are plenty of exercises that can be performed within the confines of a gym, running has its own benefits.

Photo by Francesco Gallarotti on Unsplash

Running can make you mentally alert. This is because, as you run, your body produces blood vessels that supply the brain with oxygen and sugar-rich blood. Your body also produces endorphins that will help provide clarity of thought. Running can also be emotionally beneficial if you do it with friends!

Indulge In Regular Facials

In order to remain youthful-looking and keep those wrinkles at bay, you need to ensure that your skin remains healthy. One of the most effective ways to do this is by going regularly treating yourself to facials.

Photo by Noah Buscher on Unsplash

Not only do facials cleanse the skin and improve circulation, but they will also result in you leaving the spa with a rejuvenated and glowing look. Getting a relaxing facial will also give you some much-needed rest and relaxation between your busy schedule. Consider going for a facial once every few weeks, or whenever you feel like it may be necessary.

Fix Your Posture

As you age, your spine naturally compounds. This often leads to a natural hunch that serves as a telltale sign of aging. For people with age-related illnesses such as osteoporosis, the aging effects of having a poor posture are even more evident.

Photo by Dane Wetton on Unsplash

This makes it important to take the time to correct your posture so that you don’t suffer the effects of a bad posture later on in life. Make sure to remain active and do exercises that improve your flexibility. Yoga is a great way to avoid developing a hunch as is prominent amongst many older people.

Go To Sleep Earlier

A lack of sleep not only results in less energy but a lower physical performance overall. In fact, former NASA sleep scientist Mark Rosekind, Ph.D., explained that having less than six hours of sleep could result in your body operating at the level of someone with a .05 blood-alcohol level.

While you may have a packed schedule, getting an early night’s sleep will help you to recharge so that you can take on the next day. If you struggle to fall asleep early, try eating cherries or drinking cherry juice. Cherries are a natural source of melatonin and a natural substitute for sleeping tablets.

Apply Retinol Religiously

Packed with Vitamin A, retinol is very effective at revitalizing your skin. The reason behind this is that retinol works at peeling your existing dead skin, thereby allowing your newer and fresher skin to be exhibited in its place.

Photo by Park Street on Unsplash

The benefits of retinol include repairing some of the side effects of sun damage and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. Retinol is also effective for use on acne, as it helps to unclog pores. In addition, retinol can also heal scarring. Make sure that when you apply retinol to your face, you only use a pea-size amount as this is all you’ll need to cover the full area.

Switch To Natural Skincare Products

You won’t believe the difference that natural skincare products will make when applied to your skin. Because they are not filled with unnecessary chemicals and artificial ingredients, natural skincare products will give your skin a moisturized, glowing complexion. This means that just a simple change of products will result in a younger-looking you.

Photo by Charisse Kenion on Unsplash

Make sure to go through your existing line of skincare products to see which of them include natural ingredients and which do not. While it’s fine to continue using natural products, look for natural replacements for those products with more artificial ingredients. Do so as soon as possible so that you can start enjoying the benefits of natural beauty products.

Use Face Masks

One of the more widely-known types of beauty treatments, face masks are quick and easy to apply. In addition to their easy application, face masks come with a whole host of benefits. They help create healthier skin cells, improve circulation, brighten your complexion and hydrate your skin.

Photo by Chris Knight on Unsplash

By selecting the right face mask for you, you can refine your skin pores and even enjoy a more evened-out skin tone. While getting a facial can be both costly and time-consuming, applying a face mask is a cheap and easy-to-do activity that can be done from the comfort of your own home.

When It Comes To Hair, Avoid The Heat

While there is nothing wrong with using heat-styling products on occasion, this should not become a habit. By using a hair drier every time you finish taking a shower, you can end up drying out your hair and making your strands look dull. As a large indicator of youthfulness, having dull hair will automatically add years onto your physical appearance.

Photo by Theme Photos on Unsplash

When possible, rather allow your hair to air-dry so that it remains undamaged. This way, your hair can remain naturally healthy and strong. This way, you will never feel the need to make alterations to your hair in the future in order to cover up the damage.

Stay Hydrated

A simple yet effective way to stay youthful is by drinking more water. This is because your skin is an organ and it needs to take in water in order to properly function. Because your skin uses water every day, you need to replenish its water supply by drinking more water. Without doing so, your skin would become dry, tight, and even flaky.

By drinking more water, your body enjoys numerous health and beauty benefits. Not only will you have fewer wrinkles, less puffiness, and smaller pores, but drinking water can also help clear acne and allow you to heal faster after getting sunburnt.

Maintain a Balanced Diet

While enjoying fast food and sweet desserts may be fun during your youth, keeping this up as you get older can have a negative effect on your wellbeing. It is therefore important to maintain a balanced diet so that you are able to take in all of the vitamins and nutrients that you need in order to keep your body healthy.

This means ensuring that you eat the right proportion of fruit, vegetables, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats and oils. A healthy diet not only protects you from obesity but can also keep away health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. Don’t forget that healthy eating will help you maintain a slim figure.

Apply The Right Make-Up

If you do happen to have some unflattering wrinkles here and there, then there is no harm in applying make-up so that you can maintain a youthful appearance. Seeing as many people’s eyebrows thin with age, you can consider filling in your eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil to help take the years off.

Applying some blush can provide you with a vibrant glow, provided you stick to the correct type of blush. Rather opt for cream-based blushes, as powders can often make fine lines on your face stand out more.

Avoid Excess Alcohol

Don’t get us wrong; having an occasional glass of wine after a long day at the office is perfectly fine. In fact, red wine can act as an antioxidant that will actually help to slow your aging! The health issues relating to alcohol consumption arise when alcohol is drunk in excess.

Photo by Tatyana Rodriguez on Unsplash

In addition to looking older, people with serious drinking problems increase their risk of having a stroke, contracting alcohol-induced liver diseases and even being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. The harmful effects of alcoholism far outweigh the benefits, so it would be wise to remain disciplined when it comes to enjoying liquor.

Consider Getting Eyelash Extensions

Having long eyelashes will not only make you look youthful but also allow others to see that you are modern and fashionable. There are a number of solutions that you can try in order to get extended eyelashes.

Photo by Allef Vinicius on Unsplash

First of all, you can use semi-permanent eyelash extensions. These eyelashes last from six to eight weeks, after which they will fall out naturally. You could also consider doing work on your natural eyelashes. Take a look into either getting an eyelash curler or some lengthening mascara.

Apply Sunscreen Regularly

Considering the harshness of the sun’s rays, putting on sunscreen when spending time outdoors is a must- particularly when your skin is directly exposed to sunlight. What you probably didn’t know, however, is that even when it’s cloudy, the risk of getting burned is still present.

Photo by Drew Dau on Unsplash

It is, therefore, a good idea to always keep sunscreen on hand. By protecting yourself from getting burned, you can avoid getting dark spots, wrinkles, and serious issues such as skin cancer. In addition, you will also avoid the aging effects that sunburns can have on your body.

Keep Up Appearances

There are other ways that you can seem younger besides your physical features. The way you speak, the way you dress, and how you carry yourself are all indicators of age. Try to project your voice when speaking, as a booming voice is thought to be more youthful. You should also try speaking at a slower pace, as quick-paced talkers are often perceived as anxious.

Photo by Jonathan Francisca on Unsplash

Make sure that you also stand tall, as being hunched over is a trait that is expected to be shown by the elderly. Maintain a “position of power” by standing on the balls of your feet, dropping your shoulders and keeping your chin low.

Take A Break

From family, financial, and career responsibilities to small inconveniences such as traffic jams, there are plenty of issues in our daily lives that can cause stress. Not only does stress cause small physical damages that accelerate aging, but it can also trigger a rise in blood pressure and an increased heart rate. For this reason, it is important that you manage your stress levels as much as you can.

Fortunately, you can stop stress in its tracks by giving yourself a moment to relax from time to time. Consider taking a few minutes to meditate, or perhaps do something that you enjoy.

Enjoy A Glass Of Red Wine

While alcohol may have a negative association in the minds of many people, red wine actually offers a number of health benefits so long as you drink a reasonable amount. This is because it consists of resveratrol, a substance that can limit the brain damage caused by a stroke by up to 40 percent.

Photo by Elina Sazonova from Pexels

In fact, grape seed procyanidins found in red wine is known to reduce arterial clogging, which results in a decrease in blood-cholesterol levels. This means that drinking red win actually reduces the number of deaths caused by heart disease!

Mental Aerobics Can Help

While physical exercise is of paramount importance, it is also important to consider the enormous benefits of mental training. Not only do brain exercises prevent cognitive decline, but their benefits can last up to five years.

Doing effective brain training activities can help you to improve your memory. This of course, will only happen if you make the time to regularly train your brain and stick to your training routine.

Try Green Tea

If you are someone who enjoys sipping hot beverages, then consider switching to green tea. It has already been found to reduce the risk of breast cancer and remissions and is currently being tested as a potential remedy for bladder, colorectal, and lung cancer recurrence.

If you are someone who is trying to watch their weight, then green tea could be an effective solution. This is because it has the capability of changing one’s metabolism. If you want to enjoy green tea’s many benefits, then consider sipping two or three cups daily.

Fix Your Eyesight

Because eyesight often declines with age, it is not uncommon to start needing glasses once you reach the age of 40. Make sure to schedule regular checkups with your optometrist so that you can ensure that you have glasses with the correct prescription.

One of the issues that can arise from poor eyesight is the inability to properly apply your makeup. This decrease in accuracy can result in you looking a bit odd and, therefore, make you appear older than you actually are. An easy way to overcome this issue is by purchasing a good magnifying mirror, so that you don’t miss a single detail!

Prevent Lipstick From Bleeding

Developing lines around your mouth as you age is natural, but this doesn’t mean that they have to appear prominently. One of the ways that you can limit their visibility is by ensuring that your lipstick does not bleed into them.

Photo by Kaboompics .com from Pexels

You can prevent bleeding lipstick keeping your lips moisturized. Also, make sure to apply a light coat of foundation to them with a sponge applicator. It is also important to remember to line your lips with a liner that is the same color as your natural lip color. You can also dust some powder over your lips to set the lipstick color.

Sunglasses Are Key

While sunglasses will prevent your eyes from squinting and straining while in direct sunlight, they also perform a number of other important functions. Firstly, a reduction in squinting will decrease your chances of developing deep wrinkles around the eyes.

Tim Savage from Pexels

Even more importantly, sunglasses can prevent you from getting cataracts, namely cloudy growths that form on the eye lenses and obscure one’s vision. In addition, sunglasses will protect the thin, delicate eye skin from the sun’s UV rays. Make sure to wear sunglasses that are labelled as UV 400 for maximum protection.

Eliminate Dead Skin Cells

As you age, your dead skin cells will not turn over as quickly as they once did. This can cause your skin to look blotchy, rough, and uneven. This makes it important for you to add exfoliation to your regular skin care regimen.

Bruce mars from Pexels

Make use of a soft facecloth and exfoliating cleanser to remove any dead skin cells. It is important that you do so without using excessive force so that you do not irritate your skin.

Avoid Smoking

While smoking is known for causing a number of health issues, one of the lesser-known consequences of smoking is the damage it causes to your skin. Smoking can result in more wrinkles, the development of bags under the eyes and the promotion of general skin aging.

Basil MK from Pexels

Smoking also produces an enzyme that damages collagen and elastin. This is a serious issue, considering that these are two materials are necessary for maintaining skin elasticity. Approach your doctor for solutions to help you quit the habit of smoking.

Fake Cheekbones Can Also Help

To enjoy a healthy glow that oozes youthfulness, consider using a contour kit to better define your cheekbones. Start off by highlighting the areas you want to bring out with a powdery shimmer highlighter. It is always useful to do this over areas that are typically dry and wrinkled so that you can enjoy the feeling of having dewy skin.

Contouring is what will help reduce the pouch that often appears near the jawline. If properly done, contouring will allow you to enjoy having the high cheekbones of your dreams!
