TRAILER: Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle

Today, Netflix released the trailer for Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.

The Andy Serkis film is a dark retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s novel The Jungle Book. Not to be confused with Disney’s release last year, the Warner Brothers-produced film is a different story. It is not related to the Jon Favreau film, which made $966m and scored 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The official synopsis is below:

Acclaimed actor and director Andy Serkis reinvents Rudyard Kipling’s beloved masterpiece, in which a boy torn between two worlds accepts his destiny and becomes a legend. Mowgli has never truly belonged in either the wilds of the jungle or the civilized world of man. Now he must navigate the inherent dangers of each on a journey to discover where he truly belongs.

Netflix shocked fans a few months ago when it announced it would be releasing Mowgli directly on its platform. Celebrated by Andy Serkis at the time, fans feared that the move indicated that Warner Brothers did not feel the film could compete with its unconnected predecessor.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle stars Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Andy Serkis, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tom Hollander. It will be available worldwide on December 7.
