WATCH: What Exactly Is Happening In Hong Kong?

You might have heard of protests occurring across Hong Kong. The record-breaking numbers all over the country relate to a new bill that has been introduced.

The controversial extradition bill could see Hongkongers being taken to China to be tried in court.

While supporters of the bill believe it is intended to prevent the island from becoming a safe space for fugitives, critics say it exposes its citizens to China’s questionable judicial system.

This video, by Vox, outlines some of the stories of the protesters and what they feel about the relationship between the two countries.

Since 1997, Hong Kong has been a sovereign nation. However, its official title is the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. Therefore, it is considered a special administrative region and able to dilute its judicial system to China.

It has a population of around 7.4 million people.
